"Jumanji" is a sequel to the 1995 family film "Jumanji" that was based on the 1981 book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg, with Robin Williams reprising his role as Professor Shelly Oberon. The film was released on December 20, 2017. Jay Rock and Future were set to appear in the film but were later cut due to scheduling conflicts. In July 2017, Sony Pictures announced a list of directors for the film's directorial team including Jake Kasdan, who had written the screenplay with Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. On October 11, 2017, it was announced that American actor Dwayne Johnson would be starring in the film as Alex and Kevin Hart would play Spencer. Emma Thompson was also in talks to play a role in the film which had originally been written with her in mind but she passed on it.
